Paws to Read

Therapeutic Paws of Canada is a non-profit organization of volunteers providing animal resources for human needs through regular visits to hospitals, residences, and schools. SNAP had the wonderful pleasure of seeing therapy dog Tarkas in action.
RedLegends Tars Tarkas is a 140lb Dogue De Bordeaux and every week he visits Holy Cross Catholic School in Alcona, where children read to him one on one. SNAP saw the magic that Tarkas creates as 60 students entered the library for group photos. Every single child greeted Tarkas as an adored friend. Studies have shown that reading to dogs encourages confidence and boosts self-esteem in children who struggle to read, therefore boosting their literacy.
